Bernie Sanders is still trying to figure out how to win over some of his more progressive supporters who remain deeply opposed to the former reality TV star.
While his campaign has made clear its goal is to help elect Democratic senators up and down the ballot, the senator from Vermont has also repeatedly said that Trump is not the only problem.
In a tweet Friday, Sanders said he’s still trying “to make sense of what Trump did, why he did it, and how he is responsible for it.
But I have some good news for him.
We are on the path toward a major Democratic wave in 2020, and the people of this country deserve to see the real America that Trump promised.”
His tweet also included a video clip of Sanders criticizing Trump, calling the billionaire “the greatest divider in modern times.”
It was unclear how many Sanders supporters were willing to take a stand against Trump, who was elected in November.
Sanders has already been criticized for not campaigning as much in 2020 as he did in 2016, even as he campaigned for Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Sanders, who has made it a goal to raise money for the Democratic National Committee, is also the only Democratic candidate in 2020 to not accept money from lobbyists or corporations.
